Learn how to help adult scapegoat survivors of narcissistic parents heal deeply and effectively using Control-Mastery Theory. This training offers a clear roadmap for identifying core trauma-based beliefs and safely disconfirming them through the therapeutic relationship. If you work with survivors of childhood narcissistic abuse, this presentation will give you the tools to do transformative, targeted work that creates lasting change.

Why this course?

You'll learn how to integrate the PFM into your existing manner of working and strengthen the work you're already doing.

This in-depth presentation will show therapists how to effectively understand and treat adult scapegoat survivors of narcissistic parents using Control-Mastery Theory. Attendees will learn how these clients unconsciously adopt beliefs of defectiveness to preserve attachment to a pathologically narcissistic parent. You’ll discover how to identify and disconfirm these "pathogenic beliefs" in therapy to support the client's goals. Through rich clinical examples and a 5-step case formulation model, you'll gain a practical framework for customizing your interventions. By attending, you'll leave equipped to build stronger therapeutic alliances, understand hidden trauma dynamics, and help your clients reclaim a higher quality of life.

This course will cover:

Empirical basis for Plan-Formulation Method/Control-Mastery case formulation

The Plan-Formulation Method/Control-Mastery case formulation method and how to use it in your cases

An Understanding of how Trauma shapes beliefs and how therapist attitude can help to rewrite and rewire old belief patterns

How to be more flexible, creative, and effective with patients

In-depth case examples demonstrating how the theory functions in actual clinical work.

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify the empirical basis for Control-Mastery, including the multiple lines of research that provide a basis for its approach.

Apply the CMT conception of Trauma to inform your understanding of clinical material.
